- Sri Krishnan delivers the plenary speech in the 2008 Biosignals
Conference held in Bruno, Czech Republic.
- Sri Krishnan and Karthi Umapathy organize a half-day workshop in
the IEEE EMBC 2008 Conference in Vancouver.
- Elnaz Shokrollahi and Talieh Seyed receive OGS scholarships. Behnaz
Ghoraani receives OGSST.
- Claire Winter and Alexandre join SAR as visiting research students
from Grenoble Institute of Technology, France.
- Golafsoun Ameri is awarded NSERC USRA to work in the area of short-time
biomedical signal analysis.
- Sri Krishnan is the General Chair of the 2008 IEEE Canadian Conference
on Electrical and Computer Engineering.
- Sri Krishnan as the inaugural program director for biomedical engineering
develops and implements the B.Eng. program in Biomedical Engineering.This is the first such program in Canada.
- Sri Krishnan receives IEEE Toronto Section Outstanding services award for
his contributions in the successful staging of IEEE CCECE 2008 and his
activities with the IEEE Signal Processing Chapter.

- Sri Krishnan alongwith Dr. Nanthakumar from Toronto General Hospital and
Dr. Dorian
from St. Michael's Hospital are awarded strategic grant from the Heart and Stroke
Foundation of Canada.
- Sri Krishnan is awarded the prestigious Canada Research Chair position in
Biomedical
Signal Analysis. He is also a receipient of the infrastructure for Signal
Analysis
Research laboratory from the Canada Foundation for Innovation, and the
Ontario
Ministry of Research and Innovation.
- Sri Krishnan receives funding from Biodiscovery Toronto to work in the area
of auditory scene analysis.
- Dr. Karthi Umapathy was one of the twenty-four outstanding new researchers and distinguished practitioners who have
been appointed as Ryerson University's first postdoctoral fellows and research associates. The year-long
appointments represent a major step forward in Ryerson achieving its research goals and are funded by a four-year,
$3-million program to strengthen the University's research capacity.

- Mo Aram's MASc thesis work on using Wavelets for Improving Position Location of
Stationary Vechicles in Urban Canyon has been awarded Ryerson's NSERC Innovation Challenge Award, and is
now being considered at National Competition.
- Elnaz Shokrollahi and Peyman Shokrollahi are awarded the NSERC USRA to conduct
research in Electrogram Signal Analysis for Detecting Ventricular Fibrillation, and Multichannel
Signal Analysis for Sleep Disease Diagnosis respectively.
- Sri Krishnan is awarded the National Engineering Award (Young Engineer's
Achievement Award) from Engineers Canada. The award recognized Sri Krishnan's contributions

- SAR group welcomes two research students from Grenoble, France: Julien Bonnel and Mathieu Parvaix to conduct their diploma thesis research in SAR.
- Toronto Star quoted the work by K. Umapathy and S. Krishnan on
"Modified local discriminant bases analyses of knee signals" as one of the 25 great ideas in 2006. The work was published
in 2006 March issue of the IEEE Trans. Biomedical Engineering.

- April Khademi is awarded the 2006 Governor General

second Gold medal won by a SAR student in the past four years.
- Karthi
Umapathy wins "Best Presentation" from the SAR 2006 Seminar Series.
- April Khademi is awarded
prestigious NSERC-CGS D3 funding for Doctoral studies in the area of
biomedical image analysis.
- Dr. Krishnan's novel research in time-frequency
processing of Vibroarthographic (VAG) knee signals for the detection of
arthritis and other degenerative knee diseases receives honorable

receives the NSERC CGS-M, for masters studies in signal processing.

receive the Dennis Mock Student Leadership Award for the School of
